Creating Resilient Water Utilities (CRWU)

  • Learn about the Impacts of Climate Change on Water Utility Financial Resilience, Insurability, and Credit Worthiness

The Climate Finance Working Group, convened in 2022, brings together subject matter experts from the financial and insurance industries, academia, and water sector utility managers to investigate the impacts of climate change on water sector utility credit worthiness. Check out the Report detailing the Working Group’s initial findings, and check back for more updates in the coming months!

  • Register for Upcoming CRWU Trainings & Workshops

Check out the Water Infrastructure and Cyber Resilience Division’s Upcoming Workshops and Webinars  webpage for free, upcoming CRWU events, including an in-person Climate Resilience Training for Water Sector Utilities in the Four Corners Region on September 18th, and a two-part Climate Resilience Webinar Series for the Northern Great Plains Water Sector on November 19th and 21st. Future events will be added to the page as they are scheduled, so check back for more opportunities to learn about utility climate resilience and adaptation with CRWU!

  • Explore CRWU’s New Environmental Justice StoryMap

Learn how environmental justice and water equity relate to water utility climate adaptation through this NEW resource! The Environmental Justice StoryMap’s information, resources, case studies, and data dashboard can help your utility incorporate environmental justice priorities into climate adaptation planning.

  • Hurricane Season is Here!

Prepare now. View your utility’s hurricane risk, mitigate flood damage, and get real-time coastal storm advisories using CRWU’s interactive Storm Surge Inundation Map.

EPA’s CRWU initiative provides drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater (water sector) utilities with practical tools, training, and technical assistance to increase system resilience to climate change impacts. CRWU helps promote a clear understanding of climate data and helps water sector utilities identify potential adaptation strategies, implementation options, and infrastructure financing.

Risk Assessment Tools

  • Resilient Strategies Guide: For those in the early stages of understanding potential climate change risks, typically smaller water sector utilities.
  • Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool: For those that want to take a comprehensive approach to water sector utility climate change risk assessment.
